Missouri REALTORS
® Legislative Win: Capital Gains Tax Exemption

On July 10, 2025, Governor Mike Kehoe signed House Bill 594 into law, delivering a major win for Missouri taxpayers and the real estate industry. Beginning January 1, 2025, individuals will be able to deduct 100% of capital gains reported on their federal tax return from their Missouri taxable income.

This means no state income tax on capital gains from:

  • Real estate sales

  • Stocks and other investments

  • Business ownership interests

What This Means for You

  • Home sellers and real estate investors can retain more profit from sales.

  • REALTORS® can expect increased market activity and client interest in selling appreciated assets.

A REALTOR® Driven Success

This legislation was a top priority for Missouri REALTORS®, and your advocating efforts made it happen. We worked closely with lawmakers and testified in support of HB 594 throughout the legislative process.

Congratulations, Missouri REALTORS®!
This is a landmark achievement that will benefit your clients and the Missouri economy.
