GETTING DOWN TO BUSINESS: The House Commerce Committee conducted hearings Wednesday on several bills supported by Missouri REALTORS®, dealing with landlord protections and capital gains taxes.
HB508 and HB594, dealing with an income tax deduction for capital gains, also received House Commerce Committee hearings on Wednesday. HB508 is sponsored by Rep. George Hruza, R-St. Louis County, and HB594 is sponsored by Rep. Chad Perkins, R-Bowling Green.
Governor Mike Kehoe delivers his State of the State Address next Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the House Chamber, during a joint session of the General Assembly. While Kehoe talked about some of his priorities during his Jan. 13 Inaugural Address, that was a somewhat shorter speech in part because of sub-freezing temperatures during the outdoor event at the Capitol.
The State of the State not only provides the governor an opportunity to expand on his priorities, it’s when his proposed state budget is laid out. After the ceremony comes months of hard detail work as the House and Senate hammer out their own budgets. The governor gets final say on the spending plan that lands on his desk, including use of his veto pen.
