Missouri REALTORS® are so much more than just real estate professionals. They dedicate their time to serving on school boards and running for elected positions. They educate, serve on panels, volunteer and facilitate industry discussions. Their philanthropic efforts are inspiring, and the difference they are making within their communities is significant. Our Leadership Spotlight series highlights these efforts and introduces some of our wonderful members.

This month, we are shining the Leadership Spotlight on Lana Nelson.

Lana Nelson, from Keller Williams Elevate, is a Missouri REALTOR® in the Joplin community who donates hundreds of volunteer hours per year in support of the first free end-of-life residence in Southwest Missouri, the Solace House of the Ozarks.

Solace House is a community partnership of agencies, providers and volunteers meeting the needs of the dying and their families in the greater Joplin area. Its mission is to provide 24-hour volunteer support in the last weeks of life. Lana joined the Trustee Board as a founding member in 2018. Since then, she has served as the Fundraising Chair and a dedicated community and media ambassador.

Solace House, in an effort to create a comfortable home environment, creates accessible living spaces, supports family members who maintain a busy work schedule and eases the financial burden. In a nutshell, Lana and a team of doctors, nurses, civic leaders, business professionals and hospital providers volunteer to allow individuals to focus on family in these very difficult times. Since opening their doors in 2018, the Solace House of the Ozarks has served more than 80 guests.

And in Lana’s own words, “We are active advocates and look forward to continuing to grow in an even bigger space that can serve more families in meaningful ways.”

In addition to her work with Solace House of the Ozarks, Lana is active in the real estate world as well. As a REALTOR® at Ozark Gateway Association of REALTORS® for the past 30 years, Lana has served at the local, state, and national level. She even founded her local chapter of the Women's Council of REALTORS®.

We celebrate Lana Nelson for her commitment to making people feel at home through her professional work and through her volunteer service. To a Missouri REALTOR®, there is truly nothing more important, and Lana embodies this spirit.
