COLUMBIA, MISSOURI – Missouri REALTORS® is pleased to share with you a monthly statistics report highlighting the Missouri real estate market for the month of December, including year-end results.
Missouri REALTORS® sold 5,272 residential properties in December. While mortgage rates continue to remain much higher compared to the same period last year, the median sales price saw a 2.3 percent increase compared to last year, coming in at $225,000. The average residential sale price also increased 3.6 percent, coming in at $273,168.
In terms of total dollar volume, an increase in the median sales price coupled with fewer home sales resulted in a 32 percent decrease in December. Over 1.4 billion dollars was generated in December, down from 2.1 billion dollars for the same period last year.
Additionally, the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate was 6.32% in December 2022, a slight decrease from 6.81% in November. For comparison, the interest rate was 3.10% in December 2021.
Regarding year-end figures, 82,588 homes sold in Missouri from January to December. The total yearly sales volume topped $23 billion and the median sales price for the year increased 8.9 percent compared to the same period in 2021, coming in at $239,500.
