This month we are shining the Member Spotlight on Laura Daly.
When
Laura Daly, REALTOR ® at
Murney Associates in Springfield, Mo., was misdiagnosed with an eating disorder, she knew she had to help others experiencing the same thing. After seeing many doctors, she went to Dr. William P. Smedley. He made the connection between gallbladder disease and significant weight loss to properly diagnose her. By telling her story and writing her self-published book, “
Anorexia Misdiagnosed,” Daly has helped more than 100 people throughout the world receive proper diagnosis and care. Individuals experiencing similar symptoms have read her story and considered the possibility of gallbladder.
Dr. Smedly made quite an impact on Daly. For the past 10 years, she has volunteered for The William P. Smedley, M.D., F.A.C.S Memorial Scholarship. She contributed 325 hours to the organization last year and recruited 415 volunteer hours. Daly also raised more than $2,700 for the memorial scholarship and personally donated $2,850.
The William P. Smedley, M.D., F.A.C.S Memorial Scholarship is a scholarship in memory of Smedley. The endowment fund was established at King’s College three years ago, and helps pay for the tuition of a local high school student in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania intending to study medicine at the college. There have been two recipients thus far, who plan to study in the medical field at King’s College and continue Smedley’s work.
