Missouri REALTORS®:

Hello and Happy New Year!

The beginning of a New Year is always full of change and transformation: New Year's Resolutions and vows to implement positive change. It is no secret that our chosen industry is ever-changing - and at a faster pace than ever before. John C. Maxwell said “Change is inevitable. Progress is optional.” This year I challenge all of us to Embrace the Change. Let's choose progress - for ourselves, our business and our association.

Next week is a big week for the REALTORS® of Missouri. On Wednesday, January 14, we have our annual Capitol Conference. This is the 35th Annual Capitol Conference and we look forward to seeing REALTORS® from across the state converge on Jefferson City to make an early and positive impact on the 2015 legislative session. Your voice is a powerful one, and hundreds of voices showing our collective strength in the Capitol demonstrates that Missouri REALTORS® stand strong. This encourages lawmakers to support issues important to our industry. It’s critical that state legislators receive input from involved real estate professionals like you so I hope you will consider attending the Capitol Conference.

We will also be having our annual January Business Conference next week, January 14-16, 2015. The January Business Conference is the first major meeting of the year for 2015 leadership and our business meetings will provide the blueprint for the year. You can help us kick off the New Year by letting your voice be heard and making an impact on the future of the real estate industry! Register now

As you will see from the schedule, there are many Output Groups and Committee meetings you can attend. The Missouri REALTORS® Board of Directors will meet on Friday, January 16. They were charged at the September Business Meetings with amending the Associations Bylaws regarding the terms of service for State Directors. As required by Association Bylaws, this same motion will be presented for a second reading at the upcoming Board of Directors meeting before the Bylaws will be officially amended. The effect of this revision would be to remove the limit on successive terms that may be served by State Directors.

The proposed revision is set forth below for your information:

Article VI. Board of Directors
Section 2. Term. The term of each Director shall be for two (2) years, except upon request of a Member Board for one (1)-year terms to effect staggered terms and except those Directors whose terms as Directors are governed by their terms of office as Member Board President, Regional Association President, State Officer, National Director, Past State President or President of any state affiliated Institute or Designee Chapter.  REALTOR® Directors and REALTOR-ASSOCIATE® Directors may not serve more than two (2) successive terms. All such members will be eligible for re-election one (1) year after the end of the second successive term. When a director entitlement cannot be filled by the Local Board, the Board President may nominate for a one (1)-year term, a director who has just fulfilled their second successive two (2)-year term. The one (1)-year appointment shall run concurrently with the required waiting period for re-election. The term of each Director shall run concurrently with that of the President. (2004)

I know this is a lot of information, but it is YOUR Association. Even if you can’t make it to our meetings next week, we hope you will consider attending our April or September meeting. Check out all of our upcoming meetings.

I am honored to serve as your 2015 President and look forward to kicking off a great year of Embracing the Change next week in Jefferson City!
