The Librarian In All Of Us

Good day, my LANDING friends!

It is so exciting to see so many wonderful discussions taking place here! From discussions about the latest REALTOR-related news to sharing personal and local association successes and challenges, I hope you are each finding that you have a voice on THE LANDING. Today, I want to share one more way you can contribute to your various communities.

Of the many great resources available to you on THE LANDING, a committee member’s best friend could very easily be their community library. You will find that your committee’s staff liaison has already uploaded this year’s minutes, agendas and other goodies.

The easiest way to access your group’s library is by going to your My Communities page. Find the community you’d like to access, and click on its Library link or tab. Below, you can see the library for Common Ground.

Don’t forget that you can add to the library, too! The most common way to do this is to upload documents directly by using the main menu’s Contribute > Share A File link.

This upload wizard walks you through a simple process.
  1. Give your library entry a Title
  2. Next, add a Description to give other members a better idea of the content and purpose of the document.
  3. Select the Community Library to which you’d like to upload the document.
  4. Choose the type of file you are sharing from the Entry Type menu. You can upload almost any file type: PDF, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, website links, photos and even video, and files up to 40 MBs in size. Just about the only restriction is that you are prohibited from uploading copyright-protected documents that you do not have the right to post.

In the example above, I have followed these steps for THE LANDING’s “Getting Started Guide.” When you have filled in all the appropriate fields, click Next to upload your file(s).

Once you get to this screen, browse to find the file you want to upload. Then click Upload File(s). If you have related files that would be beneficial to keep together – for example, handouts from the same meeting – browse for the file then upload, as many times as necessary.

After uploading all of your files, you have the option to either click Next to add tags (a way of categorizing files so that other members have an easier time finding them) or you may simply click Finish.

Here is our final library entry:

If you discover that you would like to add more files to your entry, all you have to do is click the Edit link on the right-hand side under Actions. This will take you back to the previous screen where you may select files and upload.

So, what library items can you contribute to your communities? How about that latest leadership video that you watched? The form that your committee is trying to revise? Or what about the flier for your committee’s next event? The sky’s the limit, so let’s soar!

Your friend in flight,
Rupert
