Gearing up for Super Bowl Sunday

As Super Bowl Sunday swiftly approaches, there’s a whole lot for the Missouri REALTOR® community to get pumped about. For one, we get to root on our very own Kansas City Chiefs on in their third consecutive Super Bowl appearance against the Philadelphia Eagles. Go Chiefs!

But did you know that Super Bowl Sunday marks a very important kick-off in the real estate industry as well? Experts consider the weekend of the Big Game as the start of the spring home-buying season. According to realtor.com, “Some buyers who may have hit the snooze button during the last few months are now ready to shop for a house.”

Moreover, real estate industry experts consider Super Bowl Sunday as a sort of “groundhog day” for the real estate industry. Since we can expect droves of homebuyers to come out of hibernation, Missouri REALTORS® can gauge how the market will perform for the rest of the year based on the weekend’s activity level. And despite some economic uncertainty and the lingering impact of the pandemic, there is good reason to believe that this weekend and the rest of 2023 will see some reprieve from the tricky housing market we have dealt with since the pandemic.

According to CNBC, “Some real estate brokerages, like Redfin, are reporting an uptick in buyer interest with rates at these levels, but the housing market still seems to be in a holding pattern, as potential sellers and buyers sit tight, waiting to see where prices shake out.”

Although it is unlikely for things to return to pre-pandemic levels quite yet, we’re excited to see how this Super Bowl Sunday weekend fares for the Missouri REALTOR® community AND our very own Kansas City Chiefs. Fingers crossed for W’s across the board!

How do you celebrate the Super Bowl? Are you prepared to take on the spring housing market that typically follows? Perhaps you have a Super Bowl themed open-house scheduled for this weekend? Let us know in the comments. And, again, go Chiefs!
