terri_sutton_photo.jpgWhat makes Missouri REALTORS® so great are the members that we have. Not only do we care about real estate, but we care about each other as well. We know that by investing in our fellow REALTORS® we are making our community, and the industry as a whole, stronger. That’s why we created Missouri REALTORS® Leadership Academy, a program that trains emerging leaders so they may exert a positive influence on the future of the real estate industry.

Our Leadership Academy Alumni Member Spotlight series highlights the graduates of the program. We want to introduce some of our wonderful REALTOR® leaders and showcase how Leadership Academy helped them grow. This month we are shining our spotlight on Terri Sutton.

Terri Sutton, a member of St. Charles REALTORS®, applied for Leadership Academy to prepare her for her leadership role with her local Women’s Council of REALTORS® (WCR). She also thought that the program would help her grow both personally and professionally.

Sutton graduated from the program in 2016, and has already taken on numerous leadership roles. She was re-elected for another three-year term as the Director of St. Charles REALTORS®, and is serving a third term as the St. Charles County WCR Network Secretary.Sutton was also appointed to her association’s Finance Committee and was selected to serve on the Missouri REALTORS® Leadership Development Committee. She even found time to receive her Brokers License-all in the two short years since her Leadership Academy graduation.

“I learned so much about myself, others and how important it is to be a strong leader,” she said of the program. “I loved getting to know my classmates and learning and becoming involved at the Missouri REALTORS® level.”

Before Sutton found success as a REALTOR® and a leader, she was a legal secretary for more than ten years, and spent the next seven focusing on raising her family. She was inspired to become a REALTOR® by one of her friends who worked in the industry. Real estate also runs in Sutton’s family; her father sold real estate, and Sutton knew it would make him proud to see her work in the field. Sutton loves that she found a job that is both fun and rewarding.

“I very much enjoy being part of such a vibrant, changing profession that truly helps people and the economy,” she said.

If you are interested in applying for Leadership Academy, applications open in February 2018 and will be due in April 2018.  We would love to have you in the next class!
