Missouri REALTORS® are not only real estate professionals – we're so much more. We're active in the community – serving on school boards, in elected positions and volunteering our time to make communities where we work a better place to be. We're educators – serving on panels and facilitating industry discussions. The philanthropic efforts of our members are inspiring and the difference they are making within their communities is significant. Our Member Spotlight series highlights these efforts and introduces some of our wonderful members.
This month, we are shining the Member Spotlight on Leo Sebus.
After being diagnosed with a congenital heart defect at age 13, Leo Sebus, REALTOR® with RE/MAX Results in Kansas City, began living a life of giving back. Leo served as a volunteer soccer coach for 35 seasons, where he created the idea of a fundraiser designed to assist the children and families of Kansas City going through major medical challenges and in need of financial assistance. Kickin’ for Kids was founded in 2003 to benefit Children’s Miracle Network. The event is all about kids helping other kids, and includes a day-long youth soccer tournament and charity auction, which has raised more than $450,000 since 2004.
Leo has been awarded the Children’s Miracle Network Individual of the Year for Missouri eight times. Additionally, Leo is a member of A Pink Carpet Event, a formal Pink Tie Affair fashion show that brings together Northland REALTORS® and vendors for a day to benefit the Saint Luke’s Foundation and promote breast wellness. He continually comes up with new ideas to help more kids and families, attends many events for other partners of the organization and is the type of person every organization wants in their corner.
Kickin’ for Kids is an annual fundraiser benefitting the Children’s Miracle Network. The funds raised stay in the local community and are invested in life-saving programs at KU Medical Center Pediatrics.
Leo was a 2016 Missouri REALTOR® Good Neighbor Award nominee.
