Missouri REALTORS® are not only real estate professionals – we're so much more. We're active in the community – serving on school boards, in elected positions and volunteering our time to make communities where we work a better place to be. We're educators – serving on panels and facilitating industry discussions. The philanthropic efforts of our members are inspiring and the difference they are making within their communities is significant. Our Member Spotlight series highlights these efforts and introduces some of our wonderful members.
This month, we are shining the Member Spotlight on Nancy Holliday.
Thirteen years ago, Nancy Holliday, REALTOR® with RE/MAX Boone Realty in Columbia, developed and implemented the Adopt-an-Angel backpack and school supply drive for the residents of Columbia Square, a low-income housing complex. After hearing that the children of Columbia Square lost their grant for school supplies, Nancy decided to help – but she wanted to personalize the donation. She organized a backpack and school supply drive, which has filled more than 1,100 backpacks and raised more than $55,000 for supplies since the drive’s conception.
Nancy is actively involved in the process, shopping for, organizing, picking up and delivering the backpacks. Community volunteers help pack and organize the backpacks, then Nancy double-checks each one for requirements from specific school lists. Additionally, she works to make sure each child on the list has specialized items they will like, such as glittery pencils or a gender and age-specific backpack. Her hard work and dedication has encouraged fellow REALTORS® to donate, and the program credits the REALTOR® community for more than 85% of donated backpacks and supplies.
Nancy was a 2016 Missouri REALTOR® Good Neighbor Award nominee.
If you’re in the spotlight in your community or know someone who is – let us know. We’d love to shine our Missouri REALTORS® Spotlight on you!
