Missouri REALTORS® are not only real estate professionals – we're so much more. We're active in the community – serving on school boards, in elected positions and volunteering our time to make communities where we work a better place to be. We're educators – serving on panels and facilitating industry discussions. The philanthropic efforts of our members are inspiring and the difference they are making within their communities is significant. Our Member Spotlight series highlights these efforts and introduces some of our wonderful members.
This month, we are shining the Member Spotlight on Spencer Aggus.
After the 2011 tornado that destroyed a large part of Joplin, Spencer Aggus, REALTOR® at Realty Executives Tri-States in Joplin, donated the use of a semitrailer to SGT Joplin for any storage they had left. SGT Joplin lost three valued members and its building in the tornado, but the board chose to continue producing plays despite losing its performance space. Over the next three years, Spencer donated the use of a truck and trailer for every show, often unloading, loading, setting up and tearing down mobile sets.
In a time of devastation and heartache, Spencer’s contributions allowed SGT Joplin to continue to bless the community with high-quality productions. He donated his time and equipment, offered his antique tractor barn for rehearsals and even found SGT Joplin’s new location. Spencer provides valuable assistance to SGT Joplin by helping whenever needed, even performing with his clarinet in the 2013 production of Music Man. Spencer has been a major behind-the-scenes force in keeping SGT Joplin afloat during the aftermath of the devastating tornado.
The Stained Glass Theatre Joplin seeks to provide training, resources and opportunity for individuals in the community to identify, develop and utilize the gifts God has given them for “family friendly” artistic expression. In addition to family friendly theater productions, SGT Joplin cultivates an environment for the community to explore and develop interest in artistic areas. While developing interest and ability in the arts, SGT Joplin provides opportunity for relationships to be strengthened, both within the community of SGT volunteers, and in the broader community as well.
Spencer was a 2016 Missouri REALTOR® Good Neighbor Award nominee.
