This month, we are shining our Member Spotlight on Julie Beck.

After helping a single, working mom of two young children find reliable transportation to work so she could continue providing for her family, Julie Beck, a REALTOR® at Associated Real Estate Group in Jefferson City, realized reliable transportation was lacking in her community.  The city’s public transportation is available on a limited basis and is not an option for many struggling families who work nights, live outside the city limits or have multiple stops getting children to school or daycare.

Seeing a need for transportation improvement in her community, Julie and her husband created Working Wheels for Working Families (WW4WF) to provide donated vehicles to struggling families within the community.  Julie and her husband handle much of the leg work of the program, providing free towing of donated vehicles and around-the-clock availability to applicants, speaking to local church groups and civic organizations, soliciting donations and cleaning and pairing vehicles to approved applicants.  Julie says her goal is to keep families working, as it makes for stronger families and stronger communities.  Since 2013, WW4WF has awarded more than 25 vehicles to families in need.

Working Wheels for Working Families is a nonprofit organization servicing the greater Jefferson City area.  The WW4WF vehicle ownership program accepts and reconditions donated vehicles from the public and puts them in the hands of pre-qualified, low-income families who are struggling to find reliable transportation to get to work and become self-sufficient.  Eligible families are referred to WW4WF through partnering social service agencies, however, families in need can download the online application and submit it for review.

Julie was a 2016 Missouri REALTOR® Good Neighbor Award nominee.

If you’re in the spotlight in your community or know someone who is – let us know.  We’d love to shine our Missouri REALTORS® Spotlight on you!
