Beth Steele What makes Missouri REALTORS® so great are the members that we have. Not only do we care about real estate, but we care about each other as well. We know that by investing in our fellow REALTORS® we are making our community, and the industry as a whole, stronger. That’s why we created Missouri REALTORS® Leadership Academy, a program that trains emerging leaders so that they may exert a positive influence on the future of the real estate industry.

Our new Leadership Academy Alumni Member Spotlight series highlights the graduates of the program. We want to introduce some of our wonderful REALTOR® leaders and showcase how Leadership Academy helped them grow. This month we are shining our spotlight on Beth Steele.

Beth Steele, a member of the Columbia Board of REALTORS®, was a mortgage banking manager and originator for 24 years before becoming a REALTOR®. Her background in lending has been very beneficial to her career as a REALTOR®, but she now loves working with homebuyers and seeing the gratification of a successful closing.

“I felt it was the ‘fun’ side of the real estate industry, which it is,” she said.

Steele originally pursued Leadership Academy because she wanted to raise the bar for REALTOR® members. She recognized that it was a fun opportunity to learn from prior state and local association leaders.

But her favorite part of the program was getting to know people from different parts of Missouri. And even though her class came from all over the state, they all knew some of the same people.

“It really showed we were all connected in some regard,” she said.

Since graduating from Leadership Academy in 2013, Steele has held many leadership positions. She was the Treasurer of her local board and was on the MLS committee. She also served on the State Board of REALTORS®, is a Federal Political Coordinator for NAR and serves on the NAR Conventional Finance and Policy Committee.

Steele has also served with the American Red Cross Leadership Disaster Relief and even teaches real estate classes at Mizzou.

“I take joy in watching other people grasp the joy the real estate business can offer,” she said.

If you are interested in applying for Leadership Academy, applications open in February 2018 and will be due in June 2018. We would love to have you in the next class!
