We're active in the community - serving on school boards, in elected positions and volunteering our time to make communities where we work a better place to be. We're educators – serving on panels and facilitating industry discussions. Our new series, Member Spotlight, will allow us to introduce you to the many personalities that make up Missouri REALTORS®.
This month, we are shining the Member Spotlight on George Handy.
After retiring from Yellow Freight, George Handy, REALTOR® at ReeceNicholas in Kearny, Mo., felt the need to help others and share his building knowledge. Handy volunteers with many organizations within his community, including Heartland Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together Liberty.
As an active volunteer at Heartland Habitat for Humanity, he works to acquire land and funding within the North Kansas City area, and regularly plans and assists projects. Within the past year, Handy personally contributed more than 100 hours, recruited 495 volunteer hours, and raised $140,000. He led more than 560 volunteers and six people were served by his efforts. His commitment to helping his community is evident in his dedication to both Heartland Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together Liberty.
Rebuilding Together Liberty works to bring the community together to rebuild and maintain the homes of community members in need. In his volunteer role, Handy selects projects, recruits volunteers, plans and leads work events to help rebuild and make improvements for homeowners in need within the community. In 2015, he volunteered 125 hours, served 20 people and raised more than $5,000. Handy also builds wheelchair ramps and repairs homes for low income families and veterans in Kearny.
Handy was a 2015 Missouri REALTOR® Good Neighbor Award nominee. His dedication to serve and improve his community exemplifies what it is like to be a “good neighbor” and dedicated REALTOR®.
