If Florence Detlor Can, You Can, Too!

We can all learn something from Florence Detlor. The 101-year old Menlo Park, California resident is the oldest registered user on Facebook -- and with 955 million active users on Facebook, that’s pretty impressive! What’s most impressive, however, isn’t that she’s ON Facebook. It’s that she USES Facebook.  (READ THE ARTICLE)

I think it’s safe to say that considering she was born in 1911, technology and social networking as they exist today probably haven’t always come naturally to Florence. At some point along the way she had to develop a skill set and social understanding that weren’t part of her formal education (she graduated from Occidental College in 1932). Surely, she struggled somewhere along the way. There were questions she needed answers to. There were roadblocks she had to overcome.

The same holds true for many MAR members with respect to THE LANDING. When the network launched on April 26th, some members were understandably reluctant to jump in and participate. It was new. It wasn’t comfortable. It didn’t come easily. However, over the past four months we’ve seen a gradual increase in participation. For example, 290 of the 520 Beta users have completed their member profile. They have logged in over 5,100 times, have created over 1,200 discussion posts, and have posted more than 420 library entries. For those of you who have embraced THE LANDING, we applaud you! And for those of you who still haven’t taken full advantage of THE LANDING, for whatever reason, we encourage you to keep trying. Keep persevering.

At the upcoming September Business Conference there will be two Tech Forums on Thursday, September 20th featuring THE LANDING. Here’s your chance to ask questions, expand your skill set, and learn how to get the most out of your LANDING experience. The forums will be held at 10:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., in the Cyber Café.

I’ll be there, and I hope you will be, too!

Yours,

Rupert
