It is not every day you get someone like Brad Inman to speak at your conference. Brad Inman, owner and publisher of Inman News, spoke on “What’s Next in Real Estate and What You Need to do Right Now to be Ready” at the Opening Session of our September Business Conference. Brad’s presentation created quite the hallway chatter and left attendees feeling empowered and encouraged about the world of real estate today and their role as a REALTOR®.

Here are what some of the agents in attendance took away from his presentation. If you were there, we would love to hear your takeaways - share them in the comments below. If you missed the Opening Session, you can view a recording of Brad’s presentation here. (Be sure you have activated your Inman Select account to view it.)

10 Takeaways from Brad Inman’s Featured Presentation:

1. “We, REALTORS®, are still in control. You know your client and you know them better than any technology company. Serve them based on that knowledge” - Melissa Annis, Keller Williams Realty SW MO, Joplin

2. “Continue to serve clients as in the past and also try new things – as scary as that may be.” - Ken Kiefer, Realty Executives of Cape County, Cape Girardeau

3. “Stay out in front of clients, don’t leave the table after the paycheck. This is how you get referrals. Your clients should become your family.” – Lin Van Meter, REMAX Innovations, Kansas City

4. “I always joke with my clients that I am a cross between a hairdresser and a psychologists. We know when our clients are pregnant with twins before anyone else because they need a bigger house. We know them more intimately than most people and you can connect with them and take advantage of that. We do become part of their family.” - Kim Cameron, RE/MAX Properties West, St. Louis

5. “Branson (Missouri) isn’t as high tech as the West Coast. You have to take Brad’s examples and apply them to your market and your clients.” - Rob Robbins, RE/MAX Associated Brokers Inc., Branson

6. “Everyone communicates differently. Millennials like to text. That is the future and that’s where it is going. You have to communicate the way your client prefers.” - Seth Campbell, RE/MAX Professionals, St. Joseph

7. "The business of real estate needs to become more client-centric. Our roles have changed with the evolution of technology and we need to embrace that new role and provide the services our clients actually need." – Carmen Stanton, Century 21 Whitney Agency, Inc., Kirksville

8. “I liked what he said about Zillow. I always tell my clients I provide ‘Joe'stimates’ (compared to zestimates). I remind them that real estate is always local. I am here for them and know the local market." - Joseph Magsaysay, Realty Executives of Cape County, Cape Girardeau

9. “The fact that Zillow is inaccurate is fabulous for us. It makes us the expert. I will start worrying about Zillow when they are 90% accurate.” - Kim Cameron, RE/MAX Properties West, St. Louis

10. “There are so many resources out there for REALTORS®. You should constantly be evaluating your resources and find what works for you to be well rounded and educated on what is happening in our industry.” – Donna Trimble, Anstine Realty & Auction, Sedalia
