Missouri REALTORS®,
Following a busy couple of weeks, things at the Capitol have slowed down just a bit. The House Committee on Judiciary voted unanimously to report out HB 1662. Referencing last week’s update, “this bill prohibits the recording of certain currently unenforceable covenants and allows a property owner to remove those covenants from their deed. The covenants to which I am referring are those that prohibit the sale of the property to another individual based on race, color, religion, or national origin.”
In a separate vote, the House Committee on Judiciary voted to recommend HB 1662 for the Consent Calendar. The Consent Calendar is a different calendar that skips the Perfection Calendar and avoids the potential of amendments. Bills recommended for the Consent Calendar must be reviewed by the House Committee on Consent and House Procedure. The Chair of the committee is Rep. Craig Fishel.
On a separate note, filing for the August primary began on February 22. To date, we are aware of three REALTORS® who are running for the first time.
- Elaine Edgar – Cape Girardeau, MO (District 147)
- Jessica Levsen – Harrisonville, MO (District 62)
- Karen Vennard – St. Louis, MO (District 108)
If you are aware of additional REALTOR® candidates not listed above, please contact Erin Hervey, Vice President of REALTOR® Party and Local Board Relations, at erin@morealtor.com.
