HB 1796, First Time Home-Buyers Savings Account is in the Senate awaiting committee assignment.

The vote on HB 1796; a recording of Rep. Ruth motion to 3rd read the bill, and the vote on the 3rd reading motion are all posted with the Common Ground post that sent you here. If your Representative was absent, they might have been preparing for their bill further down on the list or speaking with a reporter about one of their bills that was just 3rd read. If your Representative voted no, I don’t know what to tell you; you probably need to discuss it with them.

Tuesday, February 20th the Senate Committee on Ways and Means heard testimony on SB 877, Senate version of HB 1796.

On Monday the Senate Professional Registration committee will hear testimony on SB 920. The act protects a real estate licensee who uses information from another about the size or area of property or improvements if that information turns out to be incorrect. To be protected the licensee must disclose the source of the information, they must not know at the time of publication that the information published was incorrect, and they may not act with reckless disregard as to whether the information was true or false.

Next Tuesday, February 27 the House Committee on General Laws will hear testimony on HB 2457, dealing with short term rentals or vacation rentals. The bill is somewhat different than the one last session, and the Mission Advocacy Committee will discuss this coming Monday. Last weeks report contained a copy of the bill. There is a General Laws hearing on Monday, but it will not cover HB 2457.

Legislation to cut the Historic Tax Credit from $140 million to $70 million as well as make other changes ran into problems last week. A group of Senators who support HTC vigorously defended the program and offered several amendments to the bill. Eventually, the bill was laid over so both sides could seek a compromise.
