June is Pride Month, a time when the LGBTQ+ community comes together to celebrate their identities and advocate for their rights. As Missouri REALTORS®, it's important to recognize and celebrate Pride Month, as it provides an opportunity to support diversity and inclusivity within the industry and the communities we serve.
The history of Pride Month dates back to June 28th, 1969, when a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in New York City sparked a series of protests and demonstrations. The Stonewall Uprising was a turning point for the LGBTQ+ community, as it was one of the first times that individuals fought back against discrimination and harassment.
One year later, the first Pride Parade was held in New York City to commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. Today, Pride Parades and events take place around the world in June, and serve as a symbol of unity, love and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community.
As REALTORS®, we celebrate Pride Month as a way to demonstrate our commitment to serving all clients, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. By acknowledging and celebrating Pride Month, we show that we support and value the LGBTQ+ community and are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
We also encourage you to get involved. Various local organizations and community centers in Missouri host a wide range of pride-themed events throughout the month. From educational workshops on LGBTQ+ history and rights to film screenings, panel discussions and art exhibitions, there are ample opportunities to engage with the LGBTQ+ community and learn more about their experiences and contributions.
Pride Month is an important time for the LGBTQ+ community, as well as an opportunity for its allies to show their support. As mentioned, Missourians have numerous avenues to celebrate Pride Month and champion inclusivity, equality and respect for all. And by celebrating through the month of June and beyond, Missouri REALTORS® can demonstrate their commitment to serving and welcoming the entire Missouri community.
