Happy Springtime, Missouri REALTORS®! Are the longer days and rising temperatures inspiring a refresh? Spring is a great time to spruce up your landscaping and add curb appeal to your home. We’ve curated a plan of attack if you’re not sure where to begin.

  1. Start with a plan: Before you start planting, create a plan for your landscaping. Consider the amount of sunlight, water and maintenance required for different plants and choose ones that will thrive in your climate and soil.

  2. Choose the right plants: Select plants that will provide color and interest throughout the season. Mix in annuals and perennials to ensure that your yard stays vibrant from spring through fall.

  3. Add edging: Edging your flower beds and garden paths can give your landscaping a polished, finished look. Choose from a variety of materials, such as bricks, stones or metal, to match your style and budget.

  4. Focus on the front entrance: Your front entrance is the focal point of your home and should be inviting and welcoming. Consider adding potted plants or a hanging basket to the porch or doorway.

  5. Don't forget about lighting: Landscape lighting can add beauty and safety to your yard. Highlight paths, trees, and other features with low-voltage lights or solar-powered options.

  6. Keep up with maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as mowing the lawn, pruning trees and shrubs and weeding flower beds, is key to keeping your landscaping looking its best.

  7. Mulch your garden beds: Mulching your garden beds can help retain moisture, prevent weeds, and give your yard a polished look. Choose from a variety of mulch options, such as wood chips, bark or pine straw.

  8. Incorporate water features: A water feature, such as a fountain or pond, can add a serene and relaxing element to your landscaping. Just be sure to properly maintain it to prevent algae growth and other issues.

  9. Consider hardscaping: Hardscaping, such as a patio or retaining wall, can add value and functionality to your yard. Be sure to hire a professional to ensure proper installation and compliance with local codes and regulations.

With a little planning, effort and creativity, you can enhance the beauty of your yard and add value to your home. Whether you choose to tackle the landscaping on your own or enlist the help of a professional, the key is to enjoy the process and build on your work each Spring. Before you know it, you’ll have the landscape of your dreams!
