Missouri REALTORS® are so much more than real estate professionals. They dedicate their time to serving on school boards and running for elected positions. They educate, serve on panels, volunteer, and facilitate industry discussions. Their philanthropic efforts are inspiring, and the difference they are making within their communities is significant. Our Member Spotlight series highlights these efforts and introduces some of our wonderful members.
This month, we are shining our Member Spotlight on Becky Buehler.
Becky Buehler, executive broker with Edge Realty in Cape Girardeau, consistently gives back to her community. In addition to working with her church to provide Christmas boxes to families in need and participating in “Backpacks on Friday,” a program designed to provide less fortunate children with a backpack full of food for the weekend, Becky serves as a volunteer for a Veteran’s Day event at her local VFW each year.
For the past six years, Becky has assisted in coordinating a very special event at her local VFW to recognize veterans for their service to our country. Along with decorating the facility in preparation for this annual event, Becky assists veterans by serving them lunch and dessert and ensuring no veteran dines on their own. While there, veterans enjoy listening to live music. Following the day’s activities, the remaining balloons and candy bags are donated to the local veteran’s home.
Becky’s appreciation for our veterans stems directly from her family. Her husband, Larry, served in the Army during Vietnam. Her son, Steve, recently retired after 28 years of service in the Marines as a chemical specialist. During her son’s last tour to Afghanistan, Becky provided care packages for an entire year to her son’s regiment. Care packages included snacks and deodorant, among many other items. It was Becky’s goal to ensure no active-duty member stationed with her son was neglected the love and appreciation they deserved.
As you can imagine, Becky’s service doesn’t stop there. In 2019, the Missouri REALTORS® Educational Foundation released It’s Your Move, a free online real estate consumer education course designed to educate high school students on topics related to consumer credit, renting, buying, and selling a home. Since its release, Becky has been an instrumental part in designing promotional and implementation practices. In large, Becky has served as her area’s advocate for implementing this program in local schools and has become the region’s “go-to” for all things It’s Your Move.
To take It’s Your Move to new heights, Becky recruited a fellow REALTOR® working toward their master’s degree to assist in program research. In need of a project for their thesis, Becky shared the need for increased awareness for It’s Your Move in Missouri’s southeast region – and so the partnership began. Research findings will be available soon.
In addition to Becky’s volunteer service, she serves as an active member of the Southeast Missouri Board of REALTORS® and Missouri REALTORS®.
We celebrate Becky for not only her commitment to the real estate industry but for giving back to her community.
