Missouri REALTORS® are so much more than just real estate professionals. They dedicate their time to serving on school boards and running for elected positions. They educate, serve on panels, volunteer, and facilitate industry discussions. Their philanthropic efforts are inspiring, and the difference they are making within their communities is significant. Our Member Spotlight series highlights these efforts and introduces some of our wonderful members.

This month, we are shining the Member Spotlight on Ken Thoenen.

Ken, with Action Realty of Jefferson City, consistently gives back to his community through his involvement with River City Habitat for Humanity (RCHH). Focused on a world where everyone has a decent place to live, Ken has spent the past 28 years working toward that vision by building strength, stability, and self-reliance for families in need of decent and affordable housing.

Since 1993, when the first home by River City Habitat for Humanity was built, Ken has continued to share his leadership and expertise with volunteers and the board. Ken was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2004 and received 2nd place as a volunteer in the American Dream Maker Award – Sears American Dream campaign, bringing home $15,000 for the River City Habitat for Humanity. Among many other achievements, Ken volunteered to supervise the construction of a home after it was severely damaged by a tornado that touched down in Jefferson City in 2019.

“When River City Habitat for Humanity decided to double our construction efforts for 2020 in response to the 2019 tornado, we knew we needed construction supervisors,” said Amy Gillespie, River City Habitat for Humanity volunteer coordinator. “Ken Thoenen did just that.”

We celebrate Ken for his commitment to the real estate industry and to his dedication to making Jefferson City a more prosperous place to live.
