Missouri REALTORS® are so much more than just real estate professionals. They dedicate their time to serving on school boards and running for elected positions. They educate, serve on panels, volunteer and facilitate industry discussions. Their philanthropic efforts are inspiring, and the difference they are making within their communities is significant. Our Member Spotlight series highlights these efforts and introduces some of our wonderful members.
This month, we are shining the Member Spotlight on Tonya Murfin.
Tonya Murfin, from Southwest Missouri Realty and the Greater Springfield Board of REALTORS®, is a Springfield, Missouri, REALTOR® dedicated to both her craft and to her community. We are delighted to shed light on Tonya’s contributions to some more than worthy local beneficiaries and to the real estate industry.
Tonya opened SWM Realty, along with 3 partners, back in 2013. They started with 7 agents and have since grown tremendously in size. Tonya is a dedicated leader and is consistently looking for ways to promote the success of the company’s agents. She regularly hosts trainings and meetings and is a source of support for SWM Realty agents. Tonya takes pride in leading the agents through contract obstacles with integrity and an emphasis on the protection of the consumer.
It comes as no surprise that Tonya has received some impressive accolades for her hard work as a REALTOR® and broker. In 2017, she was voted Broker of the Year by the Greater Springfield Board of REALTORS®. Over the years, she has served as the director, secretary, treasurer, and 2nd VP for the GSBOR. In 2020 and 2021, Tonya was a state director for Missouri REALTORS®. She was also a recent graduate from the Missouri REALTORS® Leadership Academy.
Outside of real estate, Tonya is passionate about community service. She dedicates time every month to volunteer initiatives around her community. In fact, she has supported the efforts of the non-profit, Single Momz Rock, for the past 7 years. Founded by a good friend of Tonya's, this organization encourages and supports single moms through every season of life. Tonya also gets great satisfaction encouraging and watching her company participate in the 911 Memorial Stair Climb in Springfield each September, as well as contributing time and efforts supporting Champion Athletes of the Ozarks and the Children's Smile Center, providing free dental care for those less fortunate.
She is also a close partner with the Ozark R-VI School District. According to Tonya, “Every few years, I list the ‘trade’ house for the school system that the kids have built in conjunction with their classes in trade school.” Once the house sells, Tonya donates 100% of her side of the listing commission back to the school system.
We celebrate Tonya for her dedication to her business, her industry, and her community. Because of REALTORS® like Tonya, we know that the future of real estate is one full of educational opportunities and profound compassion for fellow community members.
