Member Spotlight: Chris Martin

Missouri REALTORS® are so much more than just real estate professionals. They dedicate their time to serving on school boards and running for elected positions. They educate, serve on panels, volunteer and facilitate industry discussions. Their philanthropic efforts are inspiring, and the difference they are making within their communities is significant. Our Member Spotlight series highlights these efforts and introduces some of our wonderful members.

This month, we are shining the Member Spotlight on Chris Martin.

Chris, from Reece & Nichols and Columbia Board of REALTORS®, has made a tremendous impact as a Missouri REALTOR®. His work across the industry will have an important and long lasting effect on fellow REALTORS® and community members.

As a REALTOR® and broker associate, Chris has held several leadership roles. He is currently serving as the 2020/2021 President of the Columbia Board of Realtors, a Missouri REALTORS® State Director, a Board of Directors member since 2015, a YPN Advisory Committee member, the 2021 Consumer Education Output Group Chair, an MRRF representative, an MREF trustee, an Executive Team member, a Member Network Committee Member and a Leadership Academy graduate.

As the 2021 Consumer Education Output Chair, Chris has played an essential role in rebranding, promoting and aiding in the implementation of It’s Your Move, a free online real estate consumer education course designed for high school juniors and seniors. Focused on the basics of consumer credit, renting, buying and selling a home, the newly revamped It’s Your Move program will be reintroduced into high school classrooms this fall. Chris explained that his passion for the project, in large part, stemmed from watching his mother work as an administrator.

“I was lucky enough to have a mother as an educator,” Chris said, in regard to his passion for education. “She actually has her PhD in education and has always been an amazing influence.”

Outside of real estate, some of Chris’s most notable community work has been with Mobility Worldwide, a nonprofit group in Columbia that focuses on ending immobility in the world. Mobility Worldwide manufactures hand-cranked mobility carts for those with leg disabilities and ships them around the world. During his volunteer hours, Chris helps put together the pieces of the cart to prepare for packing and shipping. He also calls local businesses and asks them to donate and sponsor carts.

“We went from getting around 30 businesses on board the first year to nearly 100 businesses this past year!” Chris said.

Chris also participates in volunteer initiatives with his local association, Central Missouri Food Bank, Senior Independent Living and his local chapter of YPN.

We celebrate Chris for his leadership in the industry and his commitment to his community, to education and to ending immobility. Thanks to years of volunteering with his local association, with Missouri REALTORS® and with Columbia nonprofits, Chris has made and will continue to make an undeniable impact on those around him.
