shari.jpgWhat makes Missouri REALTORS® so great are the members that we have. Not only do we care about real estate, but we care about each other as well. We know that by investing in our fellow REALTORS® we are making our community, and the industry as a whole, stronger. That’s why we created Missouri REALTORS® Leadership Academy, a program that trains emerging leaders so they may exert a positive influence on the future of the real estate industry.

Our Leadership Academy Alumni Member Spotlight series highlights the graduates of the program. We want to introduce some of our wonderful REALTOR® leaders and showcase how Leadership Academy helped them grow. This month we are shining our spotlight on Shari Asher.

Shari Asher, a member of the Southwest Missouri Board of REALTORS®, previously worked for Marriott before getting into real estate. After she graduated from Missouri State University, she worked as a front desk and front office manager in the Kansas City area. When her family moved to the small Southwest Missouri town of Monett, which at the time had a population of 6,500, there wasn’t much call for hotel management. She decided to try a new career path and got her real estate license. That was 17 years ago, and she hasn’t looked back since. She loves the flexibility that being a REALTOR® allows, as well as the challenges it brings.

“In real estate, you learn something new every day,” said Asher. “It is so much larger than the transaction in front of you.”

Asher’s favorite part of Missouri are the genuine and straightforward people that live here. As a REALTOR® she gets to build relationships with people across the state that she wouldn’t have met otherwise, from clients to fellow agents.

Since graduating Leadership Academy in 2016, Asher has stepped into many leadership roles. She is currently the President for Southern Missouri Regional MLS, which has more than 3,400 members. She is also the 2018 Vice Chair of Missouri REALTORS® Risk Management Mission Committee and was appointed to NAR’s 2017-2019 Professional Standards Committee. She currently serves as the 2018 President of the Southwest Missouri Board of REALTORS®, a position she also held in 2008.

Leadership Academy played a huge part in Shari’s ability to hold so many leadership roles.

“Learning about various leadership styles was the most impactful part of the program,” she said. “It really helped to give me the confidence I needed to get through this year.”
