Donny.jpgWhat makes Missouri REALTORS® so great are the members that we have. Not only do we care about real estate, but we care about each other as well. We know that by investing in our fellow REALTORS® we are making our community, and the industry as a whole, stronger. That’s why we created Missouri REALTORS® Leadership Academy, a program that trains emerging leaders so they may exert a positive influence on the future of the real estate industry.

Our Leadership Academy Alumni Member Spotlight series highlights the graduates of the program. We want to introduce some of our wonderful REALTOR® leaders and showcase how Leadership Academy helped them grow. This month we are shining our spotlight on Donny Allen.

Donny Allen, member of Ozark Gateway Association of REALTORS®, held many different jobs before beginning his real estate career in 1996. He worked in animal husbandry, construction and even as a cowboy before becoming a REALTOR®.

Donny was encouraged to apply for Leadership Academy by his mentor, Vicki Christensen, who helped develop the Leadership Academy program. Donny was reluctant to apply at first because he didn’t think he could spare the time away from his business. Luckily, he sent in his application anyways and was selected as an alternate. One of the selected REALTORS® had to drop the program before it began, so in the end Donny was able to join the class of 2006.

“I realized how special the program is at the first retreat,” he said.

Donny has remained involved with Leadership Academy even after his graduation. He has been a member of the Leadership Development Output Group since 2013 and served as Chairman in 2014. He created three Task Forces, one of which produced the Local Leadership Academy program.

Donny has served on various committees at both the state and national levels, including the Missouri Board of Directors and the NAR Research Committee. The people he met at Leadership Academy inspired him to get involved, advice that he continues to follow. Not only did they impact him professionally, but personally as well.

“The relationships I made will always be my favorite part,” he said. “The bonds we forged and the memories we shared have truly led to lifelong friendships.”

If you are interested in applying for Leadership Academy, applications open in February 2019 and will be due in April 2019.  We would love to have you in the next class!
