We're active in the community – serving on school boards, in elected positions and volunteering our time to make communities where we work a better place to be. We're educators – serving on panels and facilitating industry discussions. The philanthropic efforts of our members are inspiring and the difference they are making within their communities is significant. Our Member Spotlight series highlights these efforts and introduces some of our wonderful members.
This month, we are shining the Member Spotlight on
Donna Calamia.
After her daughter, Anna, was born with Down syndrome, Donna Calamia, REALTOR
® at Coldwell Banker Gundaker in Chesterfield, Missouri, became passionate about helping all individuals with Down syndrome reach their full potential. Donna has raised Anna to be a strong, confident, intelligent and outgoing young woman and believes strongly in the vision of the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis. She has served on the DSAGSL Board of Directors since 2010, but has enthusiastically supported the cause for more than 18 years.
Seeing a need to help others like Anna in the Down syndrome community by raising awareness and providing more programming, Donna launched the Birdies & Bass Golf Tournament, a golfing and fishing event. The first-class event that has raised more than $750,000 for DSAGSL in its first five years. In addition to chairing the Birdies & Bass Tournament and dedicating more than 100 volunteer hours per year to fundraising, programming and awareness-raising, Donna chairs the DSAGSL’s Development Committee. Last year, the DSAGSL unveiled the Calamia-Reineri Legacy Wall, a place for families to honor the special people in their lives, which is named after Donna and her daughters.
The Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis was created in 1976 when a small group of parents got together to support one another and celebrate the lives of their children with Down syndrome. DSAGSL’s mission is to benefit the lives of people with Down Syndrome and their families through individual support, family support, education, public awareness and advocacy.
Donna was a 2016 Missouri REALTOR
® Good Neighbor Award nominee.
