Capitol Update: March 26 | Advertising Guidance and LLC Commission Payments Quickly Approaching the Finish Line

Missouri REALTORS®,

We are moving along with both the LLC and Advertising issues. As previously mentioned, we amended the LLC issue onto Representative Rudy Viet’s HB 162. The House Rules Administrative Oversight committee reported it out today. The next stop is the House Perfection Calendar.

Both Representative Hannah Kelly’s HB 1124 (advertising) and Representative Dan Houx’s HB 695 (LLC) are now in House Committee Substitute for HB 695. The bill now goes to House Committee on Rules-Administrative Oversight.

In the Senate, Senator Denny Hoskins’ SB 435 (LLC) and Senator Justin Brown’s SB 473 (advertising) are out of committee and awaiting calendar placement.

Representative Derek Grier has HB 476 that deals with occupational license reciprocity for military members. He’s agreed to allow an amendment that will add both the LLC and advertising issues. Since that bill has already passed the House and has been heard in the Senate Committee, it puts us much closer to the finish line if we can get this done. We’ve spoken to the Senate bill handler, Sen. Mike Bernskoetter, and he’s reviewing bills now.

Both MONA (Missouri Nondiscrimination Act) bills have been assigned to committee. I’ve spoken to both committee chairmen and asked for a hearing. In both cases, the response was “let me see,” which is much better than a flat no. I’m going to keep on them. Remember, MONA prohibits discrimination based on a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

In closing, I want to send a special thanks to all of the REALTORS® who have made their way to Jefferson City this session for REALTOR® Days. It is making a difference. While we are not at a point of maximizing the use of a call-for-action, we will continue to monitor when that tool might be best used to get the greatest result.

Sincerely,

Sam Licklider
